Univers and SDEC Partner to Launch Net Zero Center of Excellence in Kuching, Sarawak

Univers, a tech company from Singapore that works with AI and IoT for energy, announced a new partnership on Monday with the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC). Together, they plan to build Malaysia’s first net zero center of excellence in Kuching, Sarawak.

In a statement, Univers said the center will be a place for innovation, combining smart technology and climate goals to help Sarawak move toward a low-carbon, tech-driven economy.

The partnership is supported by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and will focus on three main areas: giving advice and support to help others get started, doing research and creating new ideas, and putting the technology into real-world use.

As part of the partnership, Univers will help businesses and government agencies create digital strategies and provide expert advice, using its global experience in AI and net zero technologies.

They will also set up open labs, test areas, and real-life testing spaces to support research and create new ideas and technologies that fit the needs of the region.

In addition, the partnership will launch real-world Net Zero projects in important sectors like energy and hospitality, using AI to find smarter and cleaner ways to operate.

“Sustainability is a journey built on data, collaboration, and action,

“We are bringing AI for Energy to the forefront — using intelligent systems to transition to a low-carbon economy and enable emerging regions like Sarawak to leapfrog toward a net zero future,” said Arun Poojari, Global Vice President, Univers

The partnership will look at how digital technology can help improve energy use, cut down on pollution, and make businesses work better in Sarawak’s important industries.

They may also work together on training programs and share knowledge to help develop local skills and new ideas.

This agreement supports Sarawak’s bigger goal of creating a digital and eco-friendly economy, as described in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.

“At SDEC, we exist with a designer’s mindset to connect people to opportunities, data to decisions, innovation to infrastructure,

“As a state-owned agency entrusted with more than just delivering digital projects, our mandate is to orchestrate a resilient, inclusive, and future-facing digital economy that fits the aspirations of all Sarawakians,” said Sudarnoto Osman, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC.

“Sarawak is not dipping its toes into AI. We are using it right now,

“This collaboration is a significant step towards shaping a future where digital solutions are embedded in the way we design and sustain our built environment,” he added.

Univers is a world leader in using AI for energy. Their EnOSâ„¢ platform helps businesses solve tough energy problems by using smart, data-based insights.

They manage 324 million connected devices and 788 gigawatts of renewable energy, making them a company built around AI that provides complete energy management solutions. They help organizations at every step as they switch to cleaner energy.

SDEC is a company fully owned by the Sarawak government. Since starting in 2018, its job has been to speed up digital technology use across industries and lead innovation to help Sarawak become a leader in the digital economy.
