Vietnamese carmaker VinFast has officially opened its electric vehicle (EV) factory in Hà Tĩnh, in the Vũng Áng Economic Zone, just under seven months after construction began.
The factory covers 360,000 square meters and is designed to produce up to 200,000 vehicles per year. This is VinFast’s fifth factory worldwide and shows how quickly and efficiently the company can build large industrial projects, according to a statement released on Sunday.
This plant is the second VinFast EV factory to start production and is part of the company’s growing global network of manufacturing sites.Builtin less than seven months, VinFast Hà Tĩnh is one of the fastest-built car factories in the world. It includes major areas like the Body Welding Shop, Painting Shop, General Assembly Shop, Logistics Warehouse, and Quality Control Center.
There is also a 240,000-square-meter support area still being built, with more expansion planned for the future.
VinFast’s Hà Tĩnh factory is one of the most advanced and automated EV production facilities in Southeast Asia. It uses modern technology from top global companies like ABB, DÜRR, FANUC, and SIEMENS.
The factory follows strict international standards, including ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for the environment, and IATF 16949 for automotive production.
In its first phase, the plant is designed to produce around 200,000 vehicles each year, with a speed of about 35 cars per hour. VinFast plans to increase this capacity in the future as demand grows.
To make production more efficient in the beginning, the Hà Tĩnh plant will focus on smaller electric vehicles for city use, such as the VF 3, Minio Green, EC Van, and other new models that are currently being developed.
The vehicles made at the Hà Tĩnh plant will be sold both in Vietnam and in other countries.
In the beginning, the factory is expected to create around 6,000 direct jobs, with the possibility of growing to 15,000 jobs in the future. This will help boost local employment and support the region’s economy.
VinFast also expects that the new plant will attract other supporting companies to open in the same industrial zone. This will help build a complete supply chain and support the goal of using more than 80% of local parts in its electric vehicles by 2026.
“The Hà Tĩnh provincial leadership is committed to working closely with Vingroup and investors to create the most favorable conditions and swiftly resolve any difficulties, ensuring smooth investment and business operations,
“We firmly believe that with Vingroup’s strong financial resources, experience, capabilities, and determination, along with the support and consensus of the local people and the close cooperation of the provincial authorities, this site will soon become a modern, environmentally friendly automotive industrial complex that drives Hà Tĩnh’s sustainable economic growth,” said Võ Trọng Hải, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Hà Tĩnh Provincial People’s Committee.
Nguyễn Việt Quang, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vingroup, said the inauguration of the VinFast Hà Tĩnh plant marks a significant milestone in VinFast’s long-term development strategy and its global production expansion.
“Once operational, this facility will help VinFast move closer to its goal of producing one million vehicles per year to meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets,
“It also demonstrates our technological capability, production autonomy, and pioneering vision in promoting sustainable mobility in Vietnam and around the world,” he added.
