Zomato Launches Electric Bike Rentals to Support Eco-Friendly Deliveries

On June 5, World Environment Day, Zomato started a rental service with 300 electric bikes for its delivery partners in Delhi. The aim is to reduce pollution caused by food deliveries.

Delhi Police Special Commissioner Ajay Chaudhary started the test program. It allows delivery partners to rent electric bikes instead of using petrol bikes.

This program is part of Zomato’s plan to use only electric vehicles for deliveries by 2030 and to have zero carbon emissions by 2033.

Zomato plans to grow its electric bike rental program to more areas based on how many delivery partners start using it in the Delhi-NCR region.

This effort also helps support the Delhi government’s goal to make the city a top center for electric vehicles in India.

As of March 2025, more than 37,000 Zomato delivery partners are using electric vehicles. This has helped reduce about 4,900 tonnes of carbon emissions during the 2025 financial year.

Zomato’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, said the program gives delivery partners a way to use environment-friendly vehicles.

The rental model provides electric bikes designed for food delivery, which helps delivery partners save money compared to using petrol bikes.

Ajay Chaudhary from Delhi Police praised the program, saying it’s a great example of how businesses can help reduce pollution. He said it benefits delivery workers, customers, and the people of Delhi by saving money and helping the environment.

Zomato, started in 2010, is a platform that helps people find restaurants and order food. The electric bike program is part of its larger plan to be more eco-friendly, which includes goals like reducing waste, using greener delivery options, and supporting fair growth for everyone.
