Qatar-Based Qatar Tourism Collaborate with Qatar Diabetes Association

To improve accessibility and safety for kids with diabetes, managers of amusement parks and entertainment venues attended a training organised by Qatar Tourism in collaboration with the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA).

The workshop’s main goal is to increase staff and authorities’ awareness of childhood diabetes in order to foster a safe and encouraging environment for the kids.

The goal of the workshop was to create long-term solutions and put the appropriate policies in place to deal with the problems that children with diabetes encounter in amusement parks.

Katie Nahas, the Programs Manager at the Qatar Diabetes Association, led the session with the theme “Entertainment cities and public spaces for children with diabetes.”

In collaboration with Qatar Tourism, Nahas provided the audience with an extensive presentation on the rights of children with diabetes as well as an overview of the recreational facility criteria established by the Qatar Diabetes Association.

During a Q&A session that followed the workshop, 41 participants asked all the relevant topics, and QDA personnel provided comprehensive answers.

Mohamed Al Ansari, Director of Tourism Licensing at Qatar Tourism, said:“At Qatar Tourism, we are dedicated to fostering strategic partnerships with both public and private sector entities to enhance the well-being of our communities and our nation. This partnership especially holds significant importance as we address the high prevalence of diabetes among children in Qatar. Our goal is to ensure that these children can experience a fulfilling and protected childhood. The collaborative measures established between the operators of entertainment facilities and the Qatar Diabetes Association are designed to provide children and their families with safety and security, enabling the children to enjoy their playtime without concern.”

In terms of improving its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Qatar Tourism has achieved notable progress.

It seeks to advance community enrichment and sustainable development through establishing collaborations with both public and private sector organisations.

Dr. Abdallah Al Hamaq said: “Qatar Diabetes Association firmly believes that children with diabetes have the right to fully integrate into society without sacrificing their physical safety or face discrimination due to misinformation or misconception of diabetes. These children should not be excluded or denied access to diabetes management supplies, and we must make reasonable accommodations for them. We are working closely with Qatar Tourism who have provided support and assistance to the association in securing ease of accessibility and safeguard the children within the facilities and ensure that they can fully enjoy all the entertainment venues we have in Qatar.”

By making these efforts, Qatar Tourism ensures that the industry’s expansion benefits society at large, striking a balance between social and environmental responsibility and economic progress.

A number of initiatives will be put in place as part of the partnership to make it easier for kids with diabetes to engage in leisure activities.

These steps include making it easier for people with Qatar Diabetes Association identification cards to enter entertainment venues, enabling adult supervision, and allowing people with diabetes care items including glucometers, insulin pens, insulin pumps, and probe sensors to be used inside the venues.

In addition, kids are allowed to consume snacks, take medications, check their blood sugar, use the restroom, and resume their activities as needed.

To properly manage their health in the event of a hypoglycemia emergency, treatment items such juice, candy bars, glucose gel, and sandwiches are permitted.

This partnership demonstrates a dedication to guaranteeing that kids with diabetes may take use of Qatar’s leisure opportunities in a safe and comfortable manner. The goal is to create an inclusive atmosphere where kids of all ages can participate fully in and reap the rewards of the variety of entertainment alternatives that are accessible.
