Meta to Acquire Manus to Strengthen Advanced AI Capabilities

Meta announced on Monday that it will buy Chinese AI startup Manus. This move shows that Meta is speeding up its plans to add more advanced artificial intelligence features across its platforms.

Big technology companies like Meta are increasing their investments in artificial intelligence by buying AI startups and hiring top talent to stay ahead of the competition. Earlier this year, Meta invested in Scale AI — a data-labeling startup — in a deal that valued the company at $29 billion and also brought its 28-year-old CEO, Alexandr Wang, into Meta.

Meta has not shared any financial details about its deal with Manus. Manus is a Singapore-based company that builds general-purpose AI agents which work like digital employees and can independently perform tasks such as research and automation with very little human instruction.

Meta said it will manage and sell the Manus service and also add it to its consumer and business products, including Meta AI.

Earlier this year, Manus launched its AI agent and claimed that it performs better than OpenAI’s DeepResearch tool.

Manus is part of Beijing Butterfly Effect Technology Ltd Co and has promoted its product by completing many free tasks for users on the social media platform X.

In recent years, many Chinese companies, including Manus, have moved their headquarters to Singapore.

They believe that setting up in Singapore helps reduce business risks caused by political tensions between China and the United States.
