ZTE, CIMB Expand Partnership for 5G and Digital Infrastructure

ZTE Corporation has signed an agreement (MoU) with CIMB Bank Berhad. Their goal is to work together to support digital infrastructure development across the ASEAN region.

This partnership combines ZTE’s telecom technology with CIMB’s banking and financing services. Together, they will explore ways to support projects like 5G networks, infrastructure funding and expanding networks across different countries.

By working together, they aim to create a strong digital ecosystem in ASEAN. This will bring in telecom operators, governments, regulators, and investors to help improve digital growth and transformation in the region.

ZTE Corporation and CIMB Bank Berhad have already worked closely in Malaysia, especially on the country’s 5G rollout as part of its digital plans. They have also worked together on services like foreign exchange, transaction banking, and cash management.

Now, with this new agreement, they are expanding their partnership across the ASEAN region. This will help them support not only Malaysia’s 5G network but also other digital infrastructure projects.

Their work will cover countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Cambodia, with plans to expand further across the region in the future.

Steven Ge, Vice President of ZTE and Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia, said: “This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing ASEAN’s digital infrastructure and accelerating the deployment of 5G networks. By combining ZTE’s technology leadership with CIMB’s strong regional financial platform, we are well-positioned to support the region’s digital transformation journey.”

Kevin Xiao, General Manager of Treasury and Financing Center, ZTE, added: “Integrated financial and treasury solutions are increasingly critical in enabling large-scale telecommunications projects. This collaboration enhances our ability to support customers and partners with more efficient and scalable financing structures.”

Chu Kok Wei, Chief Executive Officer of Group Wholesale Banking, CIMB, said: “As demand for next-generation connectivity and digital infrastructure accelerates across ASEAN, this collaboration positions CIMB to support ZTE’s regional expansion through integrated financing and banking solutions. Leveraging on CIMB’s ASEAN presence, we aim to enable efficient execution while strengthening client relationships through a broader suite of capabilities.”

The partnership will also support bigger digital projects that match regional plans like the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement.

By combining telecom technology with strong financial solutions, the two companies aim to make infrastructure projects faster, more efficient, and easier to expand across different markets.
