Airalo Secures $220M, Becomes First eSIM Unicorn

Airalo, the world’s first and biggest eSIM provider, has raised $220 million in new funding, led by a new investor, CVC.

This investment puts Airalo’s value at over $1 billion, making it the first company in the eSIM industry to become a “unicorn” (a startup worth over $1 billion).

Thanks to growing demand from travelers around the world, Airalo has expanded quickly and now supports over 20 million users in more than 200 countries and regions.

This summer, Airalo is launching a new version of its app and offering unlimited data plans, aiming to make staying connected abroad even easier.

With Airalo’s app, travelers can quickly get affordable, high-quality mobile data anywhere in the world—often at much lower prices than traditional roaming.

As millions of people use Airalo to stay connected while traveling, the company is growing faster than ever. This new round of funding—led by CVC with a $185 million investment (from its CVC Asia Fund VI)—also includes support from existing investors Peak XV and Antler Elevate.

The funding will help Airalo improve its services even more, with better customer support, new features, and more affordable options. Airalo also plans to expand its platform to help businesses keep their employees and customers connected around the world.

“This funding is a major milestone, not just for Airalo, but for the future of global connectivity,” said Ahmet Bahadir Ozdemir, CEO and co-founder of Airalo. “This raise allows us to drive innovation across every part of the user journey by delivering more flexible plans and a faster, more seamless experience. We’re not just enabling better eSIM solutions for travel – we’re building the infrastructure for the next generation of international mobile connectivity.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Airalo — the clear category leader in travel eSIMs and a pioneer in redefining how travelers connect worldwide,” said Siddharth Patel, Managing Partner at CVC. “The digital travel eSIM market, whilst already worth US$1 billion, is at the very early stages of becoming the main method by which consumers can receive the highest quality experience abroad, at a much lower price than they pay for roaming today.  Airalo, with a highly scalable digital model grown primarily through organic channels, is best positioned to deliver superior value and customer experience for global travelers. We look forward to supporting Bahadir and the Airalo team.”

iralo is growing its range of services to give every traveler the right options for staying connected. Starting in July, Airalo will offer the largest selection of eSIM data plans on the market. Whether you need a small 1GB plan for a short trip or layover, or a 30-day unlimited data plan for heavy use, Airalo has you covered. They’re also adding special plans for data, text, and voice in some places so users can “connect like a local.”

Soon, Airalo will launch a new, easier-to-use app for web, iPhone, and Android to make the experience better for everyone.

Airalo is also growing its business services to help companies stay connected globally. Airalo for Business lets companies easily manage eSIMs for their employees, control budgets, and save up to 90% on roaming costs. For partners, Airalo offers a White Label solution, so they can quickly create their own branded eSIM store and earn money with little effort. There are also tools like API integrations, reseller options, and voucher programs that let partners provide travel connectivity to their customers. These new services and a soon-to-launch eSIM feature show Airalo’s goal to build the best tools for modern, mobile businesses everywhere.

Airalo started in 2019 and is now the world’s first and biggest travel eSIM provider. More than 20 million travelers have used Airalo to get mobile data in over 200 countries and regions. This means users can connect to local mobile networks quickly and easily wherever they go. Airalo is based in the U.S., but its team works remotely from 55 different countries. The company’s mission is to make mobile internet while traveling simple, affordable, and available to everyone.
