Alternō Secures Series A Funding from UntroD Capital Asia and ADB Ventures

Alternō, a climate-tech startup based in Singapore, has completed its Series A funding round. The company aims to speed up the use of its sustainable heat technology and is working towards its goal of reducing 100 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions every year by 2030.

The company said on Tuesday that by creating the next generation of clean energy systems—providing heat, electricity, and AI-powered energy management—it wants to change how the world powers factories, farms, and communities.

The funding round was led by UntroD Capital Asia, with support from ADB Ventures, the investment branch of the Asian Development Bank. This shows increasing investor confidence in climate solutions that can impact sectors that are hard to change.

The company’s growth so far has been supported by early investment from Antler, which helped Alternō get started and develop its business.

“This funding is a major milestone for Alternō. With the support of ADB and UntroD, we’re speeding up our efforts to bring affordable and large-scale solutions for reducing carbon emissions to industrial sectors.”

“This isn’t just another battery—it’s a revolution in how we generate and use industrial heat, starting from something as simple as sand,” said Hai Ho, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Alternō.

Founded in 2023, Alternō is a climate-tech startup based in Singapore with research and development (R&D) and manufacturing in Vietnam.

The company creates sand-based thermal battery systems that provide high-temperature, zero-emission heat for industries and farming.

With the help of its latest funding, Alternō is growing its offerings to meet the energy needs of both factories and communities.

This includes Alternō One, a small thermal battery that provides clean heat to homes without electricity and remote communities.

The system was successfully tested in Lâm Đồng, Vietnam, and is now ready for its first use in Mongolia. It will help reduce severe winter air pollution and improve access to energy.

This also includes Alternō Hybrid, the world’s first modular thermal battery that combines electric and biomass heating.

Designed to provide heat 24/7 for rural farming businesses, it allows farmers to turn organic waste into energy. This solution is set to change how agricultural drying is done in Vietnam.

To make its technology available to more people, the company offers flexible payment options, like heat-as-a-service (HaaS), allowing clients to reduce carbon emissions without spending much money upfront.

Alternō is also in talks with big international partners like Honda and Marubeni to develop its technology, highlighting its potential for global growth.

The company’s patented sand battery system uses cheap, locally available materials to store heat at temperatures up to 600°C. It loses very little heat and produces no emissions while working.

Its clients include top companies like PepsiCo, Mondelez and a network of cooperatives and manufacturers in Vietnam.
