[FUNDING NEWS] India-Based BigEndian Semiconductors has Secured $3 Million in Seed Round Funding

Fabless semiconductor firm BigEndian Semiconductors raised $3 Mn in seed funding led by Vertex Ventures SEA & India and other strategic investors.

The business said the money will expedite BigEndian’s mission to develop semiconductors from India to the world, including its surveillance SoC solution.

BigEndian, a semiconductor solutions company, was founded in early 2024 by Sunil Kumar, Renuka Prasad, Harpreet Wadhawan, Dinesh Annayya, Kanagaraju Ponnusamy, and Jansen Cheng. Its initial SoC is being developed for use in consumer and business applications in surveillance cameras.

BigEndian’s cofounder and CEO, Kumar, told Inc42 that the company is interacting with Indian OEMs and OEMDMs to make sure that its chipsets are actually produced as “Made in India” goods that are sold all over the world.

“To ensure that our business model is successful, we are hoping to engage with specific electronics manufacturing services (EMS) partners, design partners, and software system integrators that can provide an end-to-end solution for application verticals of surveillance cameras – be it traffic, railways, defence, and other specific use cases within retail and non-retail,” said Kumar.

Based in Bengaluru The founding team of BigEndian has built numerous SoCs out of India and has decades of experience in semiconductor design. The founders assert that they have expertise managing teams at some of the biggest semiconductor companies in the world, such as Broadcom, Intel, and ARM.

In a statement, Vertex Ventures SEA & India managing partner Ben Mathias stated that the reorganization of electronics supply chains has given India a unique chance to emerge as a worldwide leader in semiconductors.

This discovery occurs at a time when several Indian startups are attempting to establish themselves in the global semiconductor market with their SoCs, such as Cientra, Sensesemi, and Netrasemi.
