SUMMARY
- Bioactivx raised US$3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round.
- The funding will help advance and commercialise its Bioactiv® Matrix wound-care technology.
- Founded in 2023 as an A*STAR spin-off, Bioactivx develops technologies for tissue repair and regeneration.
The funding will help Bioactivx develop and bring its Bioactiv® Matrix wound-care technology to the market faster. With this new round, the company has raised a total of US$4.9 million so far.
“Many current burn injury treatment solutions were designed primarily for tertiary hospital environments,” said Dr Peili Teo, Co-founder of Bioactivx and Principal Scientist at the ASTAR Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (ASTAR IMRE). “We wanted to create a new generation of skin substitutes that is not only clinically effective, but also practical, scalable and accessible. By removing dependencies on animal-derived materials, cold-chain logistics and sterile-only applications, we can potentially bring advanced wound care to significantly more patients globally.”
“The Bioactivx team have made tremendous progress since we first invested during its seed round, moving Bioactiv® Matrix from promising science through clinical validation and regulatory submission, and now towards commercialisation,” said Michael Blakey, Managing Partner of Cocoon Capital. “They have built a product with the potential to meaningfully change how wounds are treated, and we are proud to continue backing the team as they work to bring Bioactiv® Matrix to patients around the world.”
Assoc Prof Goh Su-Yen, Group Director of Innovation & Transformation, SingHealth, said: “Innovation thrives when organisations come together around a shared purpose. At SingHealth, we are building an environment where ideas can be tested, refined and scaled into real-world solutions. By bringing together clinicians, researchers and industry partners, we hope to co-create breakthroughs that will transform healthcare delivery and experience for our patients in Singapore and around the world.”
Bioactivx was founded in 2023 as a spin-off from A*STAR in Singapore. The company focuses on developing new technologies for tissue repair and regeneration.
Its goal is to create biosynthetic products that can help the body repair and rebuild both soft and hard tissues.
