Blue Whale Energy Closes $4 Mn to Expand Battery Storage in Singapore
Oct 19, 2026 | By Nguyen Minh

Singapore-based battery storage startup Blue Whale Energy has Closes $4 million in seed funding from Wavemaker Partners, SG Growth Capital (SEEDS), and ADB Ventures. Existing investors Analog Ventures, Monk’s Hill Ventures, and UntroD Capital also participated in the round, which closed a few months before the company announced it publicly.
The startup is building a network of battery energy storage systems across Singapore to help free up capacity on the electricity grid and improve energy management. Its approach focuses on storing electricity for use when needed, helping businesses manage their energy consumption while supporting the wider power network
Expansion Plans
Blue Whale Energy said projects currently under construction are expected to increase its storage capacity tenfold within six to eight weeks of the announcement. The expansion is intended to accelerate the company’s presence in Singapore’s battery energy storage market.
The startup also aims to become Singapore’s leading behind-the-meter battery energy storage developer by the end of 2026. Behind-the-meter systems are installed on the customer side of an electricity meter and can help businesses manage their power consumption and energy costs. However, the company’s claim about its expected market leadership has not been independently verified.
Singapore’s Energy Storage Market
Energy storage is becoming increasingly important to Singapore’s electricity infrastructure as the country explores ways to improve grid reliability and accommodate renewable energy sources. Battery systems can store electricity and release it when required, helping manage changes in energy supply and demand.
Singapore’s Energy Market Authority identifies energy storage as a technology that can enhance grid resilience and address the variability of renewable energy. In 2022, the regulator also announced plans for a large-scale energy storage system described as a regional milestone. These developments provide a broader context for companies such as Blue Whale Energy that are working to expand battery storage capacity.
