Bursa Malaysia and AmInvest have launched the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia ETF, the first and only Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI)-qualified exchange-traded fund (ETF) in Malaysia. This marks a big step forward for the country’s ESG-focused capital market.
The fund is managed by AmFunds Management Bhd under the AmInvest brand and follows the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index, which includes 160 publicly listed companies that meet strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
At the launch, Bursa Malaysia CEO Datuk Fad’l Mohamed (represented by chief regulatory officer Julian M. Hashim) said the new ETF shows the exchange’s commitment to promoting sustainable investments and broadening Malaysia’s financial market options.
“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to product innovation, investor empowerment and the advancement of sustainability in Malaysia’s capital market,” he said.
“Bursa Malaysia is building a marketplace that offers greater choice, deeper liquidity and more opportunities for investors to achieve their financial goals.”
He shared that more retail investors are now investing in ETFs with the number of retail accounts increasing from 4,700 in 2024 to over 6,100 by October this year. The average daily trading value of ETFs also rose by 53% year-on-year, reaching RM1.41 million.
“ETFs have become an integral part of today’s investment landscape, offering transparency, cost efficiency and diversified exposure through a single instrument,” he said.
The FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index was launched in 2014 to help improve ESG (environmental, social, and governance) standards among listed companies and to promote responsible investing.
As of June 2025, the index included 160 companies from the FTSE Bursa Malaysia Emas Index, with an average ESG score of 3.6 out of 5.0. Since June this year, Bursa has also made FTSE4Good ESG ratings available to ACE Market-listed companies to encourage greater inclusivity and transparency.
AmFunds Management CEO Kevin Wong said the launch combines AmInvest’s two core strengths – being Malaysia’s leading ETF provider and the top SRI fund manager. “This is the first SRI-qualified ETF in Malaysia. It gives investors exposure to companies recognised for strong ESG practices while maintaining diversification across sectors.”
Both Bursa Malaysia and AmInvest see this launch as an important move toward creating a sustainable financial system that supports Malaysia’s goal of building a low-carbon economy.
