Carbyne Raises $100M to Upgrade Emergency Call Systems

Carbyne, a company that builds cloud-based software for emergency call centers, has raised $100 million in a new funding round. The round included investors like AT&T Ventures, Axon Enterprises, Cox Enterprises, Global Medical Response, Hanaco Growth, Hercules Capital, RCM Private Markets Fund, and SVB.

Carbyne was founded in April 2015 by Amir Elichai (CEO), Alex Dizengoff (CTO), Yony Yatsun, and Lital Leshem (who has not been involved with the company since 2017). The company has a team of 230 employees, with about 80 working at its development center in Israel.

Carbyne says its technology is used in nearly 300 emergency call centers around the world, including in 23 U.S. states and six other countries. Over 7,000 dispatchers globally are now using Carbyne’s platform.

“Over the past year, we’ve demonstrated how our approach, based on the cloud and innovation in artificial intelligence, can revolutionize emergency communications,” said CEO Amir Elichai. “This applies not only to 911 centers but also to other sectors that require advanced incident management solutions.”

AT&T’s first investment in Carbyne marked the beginning of an important strategic partnership that is still ongoing. Following their initial deal, Carbyne reported that AT&T now uses two of its main solutions.

The first is a unified emergency call management system that brings together data from multiple sources using AI and rich media on a single platform. The second is an over-the-top (OTT) solution that adds AI features and multimedia tools without needing to replace existing emergency call systems.

Carbyne’s cloud-based technology helps emergency call centers and first responders connect with people and smart devices through secure communication channels — all without needing a special app. Many 911 centers in the U.S., including those in Miami, Atlanta, and New Orleans, use Carbyne’s services. The company’s technology is also used in countries like Mexico and Colombia, and by emergency response provider Global Medical Response.

In Israel, Carbyne’s clients include the municipalities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, as well as the emergency services group United Hatzalah. The company is headquartered in New York and has research, development, and sales teams in Tel Aviv, Mexico, India, and Ukraine.
