City Energy Introduces App-Free EV Charging in Singapore and Malaysia for Easier Green Travel

Last Thursday, Go by City Energy, the electric vehicle (EV) charging part of City Energy, launched Singapore’s first EV charging service that doesn’t need an app. This makes it easier for people to use EV chargers and helps promote eco-friendly travel in both Singapore and Malaysia.

With the new “AutoCharge” system, EV drivers could simply plug in and charge, with no QR codes or logins required apart from a one-time set-up on the Go by City Energy app, the firm said in a statement.

Across the statement, the seamless experience is now available across more than 200 charge points in Singapore and Malaysia, through a strategic collaboration with JomCharge – a network operated by EV Connection, one of Malaysia’s leading EV charging providers.

“We are now redefining the EV charging experience by making it truly effortless. With AutoCharge, EV drivers only need to register their vehicle once on our app. After that, they can simply plug in and power up without touching their phones – no apps, no QR codes, no hassle,

“EV charging with Go by City Energy could now be the most intuitive and appealing experience for EV drivers,” said Mr. Perry Ong, Chief Executive Officer of City Energy.

Initially, Go by City Energy will introduce the new AutoCharge feature at five locations in Singapore: Pullman Singapore Hill Street, Klimt Cairnhill, Komo Shoppes, North Gaia and North Park Residences. The company also plans to gradually expand this feature to more locations across the island, allowing more people to enjoy the easy charging experience.

This is part of City Energy’s effort to support a greener future for Singapore. By the end of 2030, the company plans to invest over $100 million in installing numerous EV charging points at homes and business locations nationwide.

The AutoCharge system works by using two things to recognize the vehicle: the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) given by Go by City Energy, and a special code from the car called the Charge Controller ID (EVCC ID). This helps the charger know which car it is and start charging automatically.

When an EV is plugged in, the charger automatically reads the EVCC ID through the car’s built-in system using the DC charging connector.

The following EV car brands are compatible with AutoCharge: AION, BYD, Chery, MG and Tesla.

Go by City Energy is working closely with more car companies to make the AutoCharge feature available for more EV brands.

This launch supports Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, which encourages the use of cleaner and greener transport.

Making EV charging simple and hassle-free is a big step in helping more people switch to electric vehicles.

By making it easy to charge EVs both in Singapore and when traveling to Malaysia, City Energy is helping more people feel confident about choosing electric cars.

Besides its work in green transport, City Energy is also investing in other eco-friendly solutions.

The company offers smart home and kitchen appliances that use Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology. These appliances help people track and control their energy use more easily and efficiently.

City Energy is also the only company in Singapore that supplies piped town gas to over 900,000 homes and businesses. It is working to make this gas cleaner by exploring the use of low-carbon hydrogen and other greener options.

These efforts demonstrate how City Energy is evolving into a comprehensive energy solutions provider that supports Singapore’s transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.
