Doosan Robotics has opened a new research and development (R&D) center that will focus on creating smarter robots and advanced software.
The Doosan Robotics Innovation Center is located in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province, and spans about 2,000 square meters, making it the largest facility of its kind in Korea, according to the company.
Around 40% of Doosan Robotics’ employees will work at this new center. They will focus on developing technologies for humanoid robots and AI software made specifically for robots.
This center will act as the company’s main research hub. It will handle everything from designing robot parts and creating software to testing and ensuring quality.
The company will run thousands of tests to check if its robot arms can move smoothly in every direction without making mistakes.
It also plans to make its robots stronger by testing them in tough conditions, such as very high temperatures.
Doosan Robotics believes the new facility will help the company develop new products and technologies faster.
The company is leading the way in creating multi-arm control technology, which lets several robot arms work together at the same time to handle more complex and detailed tasks in big manufacturing plants.
It is also working on collision-avoidance technology that uses sensors to make sure robots can operate safely at worksites.
Doosan Robotics has hired Oh Chang-hun, the former Chief Technology Officer at Toss Securities, as its new Executive Vice President.
He will lead the company’s AI and software development, bringing his experience in building and managing core platform systems from his time at leading tech firms like Naver and Toss.
“Doosan Robotics is executing our core initiatives so we can become an intelligent robot solutions provider,” Doosan Robotics CEO Kim Min-pyo said. “We will develop our AI technologies by utilizing our compiled industrial data and strong research manpower, and lead the era of physical AI with our strong expertise in developing intelligent robots.”
