Gridcog, a climate tech startup has raised $14 million (US$10 million) in a Series A funding round.
SUMMARY
- Gridcog raised US$10 million (A$14 million) in a Series A round led by ABB.
- The company develops energy modeling software for renewable and hybrid energy projects.
- The funding will support growth and further development of its clean energy platform.
The funding round was led by ABB, a Swiss-listed electrification company.
Other investors included Axpo, DNV Ventures, VERBUND X Ventures, and existing investors AlbionVC and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
Gridcog develops energy modelling software that helps businesses plan hybrid energy projects and integrate more renewable energy. Its platform has been used in more than 16,000 projects across 40+ markets by companies such as Shell, Greenvolt, NextEnergy Capital, European Energy, Vestas, and PwC.
Gridcog co-founder and CEO Fabian Le Gay Brereton said that having ABB, Axpo, DNV, and VERBUND as investors is strategically important.
He said these companies bring strong expertise in industrial electrification, energy consulting, large-scale power generation, and energy trading, which will help support Gridcog's growth.
“Their collective backing is a signal that transparent, rigorous modelling is becoming foundational for the energy transition, not a nice-to-have,” he said.
“Renewables completely dominate new power additions worldwide, but renewables-dominant power systems need an enormous amount of flexibility. This is where the energy transition will be won or lost, and right now flexibility is the hardest thing to model well.”
Founded in 2020 by Fabian Le Gay Brereton and Pete Tickler, Gridcog provides energy modeling and optimization software that helps businesses plan and manage energy projects more efficiently.
The platform gives users a clear view of every calculation and assumption, helping them make better decisions for complex renewable energy and energy transition projects.
