
PhonePe has hired Shivnath Thukral as Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs.
He will lead the company’s work with government officials and regulators, focusing on important projects and helping shape policy decisions. He will join the leadership team with founders Sameer Nigam and Rahul Chari.
Before joining PhonePe, Thukral was Vice President of Public Policy at Meta. There, he worked on technology rules and improving financial access for everyone.
He has also been involved with important industry groups like BIF, USISPF, and PAFI, making him well-known in India’s policy world.
Sameer Nigam, Co-Founder and CEO at PhonePe, said, “We are delighted to have Shivnath join the PhonePe team. He comes with a rich experience and deep understanding of public policy, regulatory frameworks, and strategic advocacy. I would like to wish him the very best in his new role.”
PhonePe made this announcement as it prepares for a $1.5 billion IPO, hoping to be valued at $15 billion. The company will likely submit its official documents soon.
PhonePe is based in Bengaluru and is one of India’s biggest fintech platforms, with over 600 million users. Every day, it processes more than 330 million transactions and handles payments worth over ₹150 lakh crore every year.
Besides digital payments, PhonePe also offers services like insurance, loans, wealth management, and consumer apps such as Pincode and the Indus Appstore.
