
France-based technology company Thales has chosen Derek Cheng to serve as Country Director for Singapore and as CEO of Thales Solutions Asia Pte Ltd starting on October 1 2026.
Derek Cheng takes over from Emily Tan. Will manage Thales operations and the Thales workforce in Singapore. Thales counts about 2,000 employees in four locations across Singapore.
Derek Cheng Brings Aerospace and Government Experience
Derek Cheng joins Thales after five years at Vertical Aerospace, where Derek Cheng led commercial activities throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to Vertical Aerospace Derek Cheng held roles at Airbus and collaborated with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
At Vertical Aerospace Derek Cheng worked on business development and partnerships for air mobility across Asia-Pacific. Derek Cheng’s earlier Airbus experience included leadership roles in mobility government affairs and strategic partnerships.

Thales Expands Its Singapore Operations
This appointment arrives while Thales keeps building its presence in Singapore across aerospace, defence, digital identity and cybersecurity.
Thales has worked in Singapore for over 50 years. Has created strong engineering, manufacturing and research capabilities there. Thales Singapore operations cover avionics, digital identity and security and air traffic management technologies.
Singapore has chosen Thales to deliver an AI-powered air traffic management system supporting Singapore’s aim to modernise aviation infrastructure.
