U Mobile, Malaysia’s next-generation 5G network provider, has signed a term sheet with Celcom Timur Sabah (CT Sabah), a high-speed fiber optic infrastructure provider in Sabah and WP Labuan, to deploy 5G leased circuits in the region.
The company said last Thursday that once the definitive agreement is finalized, U Mobile will leverage CT Sabah’s extensive fiber network to support and accelerate its 5G rollout in Sabah and WP Labuan.
As part of the agreement, CT Sabah will upgrade existing 4G leased circuit sites to 5G and build new leased circuit sites to support U Mobile’s needs as Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider.
U Mobile will tap into CT Sabah’s extensive fiber network, which covers over 10,000 kilometers across Sabah and WP Labuan, delivering strong, stable, and high-capacity connectivity for enterprises and consumers alike.
“We are pleased to appoint CT Sabah as our fiber leasing partner in Sabah and WP Labuan to support our upcoming 5G network expansion,” U Mobile said.
“We are committed to accelerating 5G coverage nationwide, and with CT Sabah on board, we are even better positioned to meet our rollout targets and deliver a superior 5G experience — one that is highly reliable, supports massive capacity, and offers ultra-fast speeds for enterprises and consumers across Malaysia,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
He added that U Mobile is ready to play a larger role in bridging the digital divide, supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a high-income digital nation.
Meanwhile, Zurinah Hanafiah, Chief Executive Officer of CT Sabah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing digital connectivity in Sabah and WP Labuan.
“We view the 5G rollout as a critical step toward unlocking new opportunities for the region. This initiative will help digital transformation, drive economic growth, and improve the quality of life for communities.
“Our partnership with U Mobile is a key enabler in this effort, and we are proud to support their 5G expansion by delivering robust and reliable fiber infrastructure,” she added.
The definitive agreement is expected to be finalized by the third quarter 2025.
