Singapore‑based United Overseas Bank (UOB) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a cloud environment in Singapore. The partnership aims to strengthen UOB’s technology infrastructure boost resilience and create AI‑powered banking services for UOB’s five ASEAN markets. I think this partnership will bring benefits to customers.
Announced on October 9 2026 this initiative will test a hybrid cloud model that mixes on‑premises systems with cloud services. The design is meant to help UOB meet rules keep data in local regions and strengthen security and governance across UOB’s regional operations. I am excited to see how this hybrid model will work.
Focus on Cloud Infrastructure and AI
The first phase of the collaboration will focus on hybrid cloud architecture, data analytics and AI‑powered customer engagement. The dedicated cloud environment in Singapore will let UOB tap into cloud and AI capabilities while tailoring its systems and data to meet the needs of markets. I am looking forward to seeing how the AI tools will help customers.
UOB and AWS will also look at using intelligence to improve customer experiences and internal operations. Possible uses are banking, personalised customer services and AI‑powered tools for employees. I hope these tools will make banking smoother for everyone.

Exploring Generative AI With Amazon Bedrock
UOB and AWS will investigate Amazon Bedrock, AWS’s managed service for building and scaling AI applications. This technology could support UOB’s existing Enterprise Generative AI Platform. Help UOB build AI‑powered applications for employees and business operations. I am curious about how generative AI will transform banking.
The initiative is meant to help UOB explore AI capabilities while keeping the security and governance standards that the banking sector requires. I believe that strong governance is essential for trust.
Building Cloud and AI Skills
Alongside building infrastructure and AI UOB will look into AWS learning and training programmes for its employees. These programmes will focus on cloud computing, generative AI, data analytics, security and compliance. I hope the training programmes empower employees to use tools responsibly.
This effort builds on UOB’s AI upskilling initiatives and aims to prepare UOB employees to develop and use cloud‑ and AI‑powered solutions responsibly. I feel confident that these skills will benefit the organization.
Lawrence Goh, Head of Group Technology and Operations at UOB said that achieving UOB’s initiative goals needs an resilient technology foundation, strong governance and the right ecosystem of partners. I agree that collaboration is key.
