Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyễn Sinh Nhật Tân, met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss ways to strengthen economic, trade, and investment ties between the two countries.
Landau praised Vietnam's economic growth and noted the steady progress in trade and economic relations between the US and Vietnam. He said the US wants to expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, LNG infrastructure, environmental protection, and reducing plastic waste.
Tân welcomed the positive assessment and said economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries has delivered significant benefits for businesses and people in both nations.
On trade, he said the Vietnamese and US economies complement each other well and have strong potential for further growth. Vietnam is committed to developing balanced, sustainable, and mutually beneficial trade relations and is willing to increase imports of US products, including agricultural goods, energy, and high-tech equipment.

Regarding investment, Tân appreciated the role of US companies in supporting Vietnam's manufacturing, exports and technological development. He reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to improving its business environment and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors including US firms.
On climate and environmental issues, Tân said Vietnam is actively working toward its commitments on green growth, emissions reduction, and sustainable development.
Both sides noted progress in talks on a fair and balanced reciprocal trade agreement and agreed to continue working together to resolve the remaining issues.
Vietnam also urged the US to recognize it as a market economy and remove it from the D1 and D3 lists, which would ease restrictions on certain high-tech exports and support stronger economic cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, both countries agreed to increase cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and economic development, further strengthening the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
