ZTE Launches AI Data Center Module Supporting

Chinese telecommunications equipment maker ZTE has launched its ZXEDC M8000 Intelligent Computing Micro-Module Data Center, designed to support high-density artificial intelligence (AI) workloads with flexible cooling and power distribution.

The company introduced the system at Data Center World Asia, addressing the growing demand for computing infrastructure as AI applications increase power consumption and heat generation in data centers.

High-Density Computing and Flexible Cooling

The M8000 supports rack power densities ranging from 20 kW to 60 kW, with a maximum capacity of 250 kW per rack. According to ZTE, the system combines air and liquid cooling to accommodate different computing requirements and support future infrastructure upgrades.

The integrated solution includes liquid-cooled racks, cooling distribution units (CDUs), power distribution equipment, monitoring systems, and fire protection integration. Its modular design allows operators to deploy AI servers alongside general-purpose computing systems.

Power Efficiency and Liquid Cooling Safety

The M8000 uses an 800V high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power distribution architecture with intelligent busbars. ZTE said the system can achieve power supply efficiency of up to 98%.

The company also reported a power usage effectiveness (PUE) as low as 1.15, depending on operating conditions and location. PUE measures a data center's total energy consumption relative to the energy used by its IT equipment; lower values generally indicate better energy efficiency.

Competition in the Modular Data Center Market

ZTE's launch comes as data center infrastructure providers expand their offerings to meet the demands of AI computing. Vertiv, for example, offers micro data center solutions and modular infrastructure designed for enterprise and AI-related applications.

With its combination of air and liquid cooling, high-voltage power distribution, and modular deployment, ZTE is targeting operators seeking infrastructure capable of supporting increasingly power-intensive AI workloads.
