
Alibaba Cloud, the tech arm of Alibaba Group, announced that it will open a second data center in South Korea by the end of June 2025. This move comes as more local businesses are using cloud and AI services.
The company said this new investment shows its ongoing commitment to South Korea, following its first data center launch in 2022. The new center will help support the growing need for AI infrastructure, especially with more companies starting to use generative AI.
This second data center also marks an important step in Alibaba Cloud’s plan to expand and offer more services in the South Korean market.
With the new data center, Alibaba Cloud will offer more cloud-based, big data, and database products to support businesses better using AI.
It will also improve the reliability and speed of its cloud services, making them more stable and better prepared to handle issues like system failures or outages.

Alibaba Cloud entered the South Korean market in 2016. Since then, it has provided reliable, secure, and affordable cloud services to help many industries go digital and grow both in South Korea and internationally.
Some companies have used Alibaba Cloud’s advanced AI model, Qwen, and its strong global cloud network to create new and innovative solutions.
Alibaba Cloud opened its first data center in South Korea in March 2022. As a top global and Asia-Pacific cloud service provider, the company received the Korea Information Security Management System (K-ISMS) certification for its data center in December 2023, showing its commitment to high security standards.
K-ISMS is the top information security certification in South Korea. It shows that Alibaba Cloud follows strict rules and high standards for data protection. This gives businesses more confidence to use Alibaba Cloud’s services with stronger security.
Univa, a South Korean AI solutions company, recently launched its ‘Agent AI’ service, which is powered by Alibaba Cloud’s advanced generative AI technology and strong cloud infrastructure.
Snow, a company under Naver, is using Alibaba Cloud’s advanced AI video model called Wan to power the image styling feature in its app in China.
