Kyndryl Launches ASEAN AI Innovation Lab in Singapore to Boost AI Growth Across Southeast Asia, Including Malaysia

Kyndryl, a U.S.-based technology company, announced on Tuesday that it is opening a new ASEAN AI Innovation Lab in Singapore.

The lab will provide smart and secure AI solutions to businesses across Southeast Asia.

This move comes after Kyndryl’s recent investments in the UK and France, showing their commitment to building AI talent hubs, encouraging innovation, and supporting growth in different countries.

The new lab will help customers learn how to use AI, combine different technologies, and improve their software and platforms with support from Kyndryl Consult.

The lab will also offer a co-creation experience with Kyndryl Vital, where customers can work together to solve real business problems using creative and design-based methods.

It will hire about 50 local AI experts, such as data scientists, data engineers, and AI developers. The lab will also help organizations learn about responsible AI by showing real examples and live demonstrations.

“Our ASEAN AI Innovation Lab underscores Kyndryl’s long-term commitment to the region,

“Our experience in designing and delivering complex systems at scale gives us an advantage in implementing end-to-end AI solutions,” said Andrew Lim, Managing Director, Kyndryl ASEAN and Korea.

“By partnering with Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), Google Cloud and other ecosystem players, we aim to scale trustworthy and high-impact AI solutions that enable businesses to move faster and smarter with responsible AI principles at the core,” he added.

Kyndryl is teaming up with Google Cloud and Digital Industry Singapore (DISG) to help companies in Singapore speed up their use of AI through a program called AI Cloud Takeoff, part of DISG’s Enterprise Compute Initiative (ECI).

As a launch partner for Kyndryl’s new ASEAN AI Innovation Lab, Google Cloud is providing tools like Vertex AI, BigQuery, Agent Development Kit (ADK), and Google Agentspace to help build AI solutions and support business growth.

“Enterprises across Southeast Asia are moving quickly to harness generative AI and agentic AI, and they need trusted partners to do it responsibly and at scale,

“Our partnership with Kyndryl brings together deep consultancy expertise and interoperable data-to-AI capabilities to help organizations unlock tangible and measurable return of investment (ROI) from deployments of enterprise-grade AI with cutting-edge security capabilities,” said Mark Micallef, Managing Director of Southeast Asia, Google Cloud.

According to Kyndryl, the lab will help customers use AI in real business operations by providing reliable infrastructure and cloud-based systems.

By working with Digital Industry Singapore (DISG) and top universities and research centers in Singapore, the lab will help companies train AI talent and create reusable tools and services to prepare their workforce for the future.

The lab’s AI experts will also guide organizations on strong rules for governance, privacy, and security to meet legal requirements. They will focus on building AI solutions that save energy, reduce costs, and lower carbon emissions.

Kyndryl’s recent People Readiness Report 2025 shows a big gap between how much companies invest in AI and how ready their employees are.

While 95% of businesses have invested in AI, 71% of leaders say their teams are not yet ready to use the technology well.

However, a small group of companies (14%) called “Pacesetters” are already benefiting from AI by making sure their employees, technology, and growth plans work well together.

Kyndryl’s ASEAN AI Innovation Lab supports Singapore’s goal to be a global leader in AI. It helps build a strong AI community and shares expert knowledge across Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines to meet the growing demand for AI in the region.

“Kyndryl’s ASEAN AI Innovation Lab contributes to Singapore’s ambition to be a hub for AI innovation,

“We are keen for companies to develop their innovation mandates in Singapore and tap into our ecosystem to grow their businesses,” said Philbert Gomez, Senior Vice President and Head and Executive Director, Digital Industry Singapore.

He said that Kyndryl is a partner in the Enterprise Compute Initiative, a national program to speed up AI projects.

“By working with businesses, universities, and the government, this lab will help spark new ideas, train people with AI skills, and build strong AI systems that can grow in Singapore and across the ASEAN region,” he added.
