Renesas Electronics Corporation has announced that one of its subsidiaries has completed the acquisition of Irida Labs a Greece-based company that develops embedded software for AI-powered visual perception systems.
The acquisition will strengthen Renesas’ edge AI technology, an important growth area for the company. It will also help Renesas create integrated hardware and software solutions for camera and machine vision systems used in industries such as robotics, smart cities, IoT, agriculture, healthcare, and industrial automation.
As part of its digitalization strategy, Renesas plans to add Irida Labs’ software and tools to Renesas 365, a new platform designed to support electronics system development, from design and development to long-term management.
The demand for smart edge AI systems is growing quickly across many industries, but building these systems can be complex. Developers often face challenges such as managing low-power processors, training AI models, and reducing security and data transmission risks. Vision AI software helps systems understand and process images and video data used in industrial inspection, robotics, automotive sensing, traffic monitoring, smart retail, and security applications.
