Anthropic appoints Sangeeta Bavi to lead startups, growth in India

In her new role, she will work on increasing the use of Anthropic’s AI tool “Claude” among Indian startups and mid-sized companies.

Before joining Anthropic, she worked as the Chief Operating Officer at YourStory Media, where she managed operations and helped the company grow its income from different sources.

She also worked as the Director of Startup Business at Microsoft, where she helped build Microsoft’s startup business in India from the beginning.

In a LinkedIn post announcing her new role, Bavi shared that she has a strong connection with founders. She said that founders’ ambition, resilience, and belief in changing the world have taught her a lot. She added that joining Anthropic as Head of Digital Natives, Startups & Growth for India feels very meaningful to her.

Anthropic is also growing its presence in India. India is already the company’s second-largest market for its AI tool Claude, contributing about 7.2% of global usage. The company is also planning to open its first office in Bengaluru, which will help it build local teams and increase business adoption.

Earlier in January, Anthropic appointed Irina Ghose, former Microsoft India Managing Director, to lead its India operations before the Bengaluru office opens. In April, it also hired Amlan Mohanty, a former Google policy leader, to manage India policy and external affairs.
