Australian Healthtech Medcast Raises US$3.79Mn to Expand MedLuma Clinical AI Platform

Australian medical education and healthtech company Medcast has raised A$5.4 (US$3.79) million in a new investment round led by Best Practice Software. The funding will support the development and expansion of its AI powered clinical knowledge platform MedLuma.

The investment will help Medcast expand its technology and clinical teams, develop MedLuma and integrate the platform with clinical software used by healthcare professionals.

MedLuma’s Clinical AI Platform

MedLuma is an AI-enabled clinical knowledge platform designed for Australian healthcare professionals. It helps clinicians find answers to medical questions using Australian clinical guidelines and other verified medical sources.

The platform provides evidence-based answers with citations that allow clinicians to check the original sources. MedLuma also combines technical AI checks with human review and keeps Australian health data onshore.

How Medcast Plans to Use the A$5.4M Funding

Medcast will use the investment to expand its technology and clinical teams and continue developing MedLuma.

The company also plans to deepen MedLuma’s integration with clinical software, including Best Practice Software’s practice management systems. This will bring clinical knowledge closer to the tools healthcare professionals already use.

Best Practice Software Leads Medcast Investment

Best Practice Software led the A$5.4 million investment as part of its existing collaboration with Medcast.

Best Practice Software CEO Craig Hodges said the investment reflects confidence in the Medcast team and MedLuma platform. He also highlighted the opportunity to bring the technology into clinicians’ existing workflows.

Medcast CEO and co-founder Dr Stephen Barnett said the investment will help the company scale MedLuma while maintaining its focus on clinical quality, transparency and trust.

Medcast co-founder and Chief Product Officer Justin Lewis said the quality, sourcing and governance of medical information will be important for clinical AI adoption.
