Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Semarak AI Malaysia, a national initiative aimed at expanding artificial intelligence (AI) adoption across Malaysia’s public sector, businesses and communities. The program will provide AI tools, training and technology support to government officers, students, software companies and small businesses.
Announced at AWS Cloud and AI Day Kuala Lumpur, the initiative focuses on helping Malaysians develop and use AI-powered solutions across different industries.
Three Key Pillars of the Program
Semarak AI Malaysia is built around three main pillars: AI Negara, AI Ekonomi and AI Rakyat. Each pillar focuses on a different part of Malaysia’s digital development.
- AI Negara: Supports government agencies and civil servants with AI tools and skills.
- AI Ekonomi: Helps software companies and small businesses adopt AI technologies.
- AI Rakyat: Focuses on AI education and skills development for students, teachers and communities.

The platform will use AWS’s Kiro coding tool to support software development. Its first phase will begin with 500 developers in 2026, with a target of reaching 4,000 developers by 2028.
AWS is also working to provide its Amazon Quick work assistant to up to 445,000 government officers. The tool will help them analyze procurement data, research policies and manage other government-related tasks.
Supporting Malaysian Businesses with AI
Through AI Ekonomi, AWS aims to help Malaysian software companies and small businesses integrate AI into their operations.
AWS reported that cloud and AI workloads among Malaysian software companies using its services grew by around 30% in 2024 and 2025.
The company is also working with GD XCHANGE and VSTECS to provide AI tools to small businesses. Eligible businesses can receive six months of free access to Amazon Quick and Kiro after completing an AI readiness assessment.
Expanding AI Education Across Malaysia
Under AI Rakyat, AWS is working with Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education to improve AI education in polytechnics and community colleges.
More than 3,000 students and lecturers participated in the POLYCC Agentic AI League 2026, an AI competition focused on developing practical AI skills.
AWS has also adopted Sekolah Kebangsaan Datuk Keramat in Kuala Lumpur under the government’s Sekolah Angkat MADANI program. The initiative will support improvements to the school's digital and science facilities and provide training for teachers.
AWS's Investment in Malaysia
Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, said the initiative builds on AWS's MYR29.2 billion (approximately $7.21 billion) investment commitment to the country.
Through Semarak AI Malaysia, AWS aims to strengthen Malaysia’s AI capabilities by supporting government employees, businesses, students and local communities.
