Clean Slate Clinic raises $2.8 million in funding

Clean Slate Clinic, an online platform that helps people recover from alcohol and drug addiction, has raised AUD $4.3 million( US$2.8 million ) in a recent funding round.

The company will use this money to expand into the United Kingdom and improve its digital services. It offers easy access to doctor-led treatment, allowing people to get help from the comfort and privacy of their homes.

Co-founder Dr. Chris Davis said there is a big gap in support. Many Australians drink at harmful levels, but only a few ask for help. He explained that safe detox options at home were almost unavailable, even though alcohol-related issues are common.

Because of this, many people have not received the support they need for years.

Stigma and old treatment methods have also made it harder for people to seek help. Many delay getting treatment because they feel uncomfortable or judged. For professionals like healthcare workers, the fear of being recognized at a clinic is a major concern. Clean Slate’s online model solves this by offering private and easy access to care from home.

Cofounder Chris Davis, a GP, said while 1.4 million drink at levels requiring specialist care, only one in four people with alcohol dependence ever seek treatment, and even then it can take nearly 20 years to ask for help.

“Alcohol is the most common drug presentation in the Australian health system, yet safe, clinician-led detox at home has been virtually non-existent,” he said.

“For years, I watched people cycle through crisis because community care simply didn’t exist at scale. Clean Slate changes that by giving people access to medical care at home when they are ready to seek help.”

Founded in 2020 by Pia Clinton-Tarestad, Clean Slate is a social enterprise that has helped over 3,000 people safely detox at home from alcohol, stimulants, or cannabis.

The company is growing strongly every year and its services are covered by many private health insurers in Australia. This shows that the market trusts and accepts its model.

It also proves that the virtual clinic is a good solution for both patients and insurers, showing that its at-home care model is effective and efficient.
