Damroo raises $600K in funding round from Hindustan Times

Damroo, a platform that helps independent and regional artists share and grow their music has raised ₹5 crore (US$600K) in funding from Hindustan Times.

The new funding will be used to improve its technology, add more artists, grow its music library, and make it easier for listeners to discover regional music. It will also help creators earn more and connect better with their fans across India.

As part of the partnership, Hindustan Times will also promote these artists through its media platforms like Fever FM and other digital channels helping them reach a wider audience.

Karan Katyal, Strategic Partnerships & Investments, HT Media Group, said, “Damroo is addressing a meaningful gap in India’s independent music ecosystem through an artist-first approach focused on growth, discoverability, and monetization. Ram’s experience in the industry lends strong perspective to the business, and we are pleased to partner with the team on this journey.”

Ram Mishra, Founder of Damroo, said, “India is witnessing an incredible rise in independent and regional music talent, but many artists still struggle with visibility, monetization, and long-term career support.”

“With this partnership with Hindustan Times, we are building a technology-driven ecosystem that will help artists access audience reach, industry infrastructure and growth opportunities at scale. Our vision is to ensure that talented artists across India can pursue music fearlessly and build meaningful livelihoods through their art,” Ram Mishra added.

Founded in 2021 by Ram Mishra, Damroo is a Mumbai-based platform that helps independent and regional artists in India grow their music careers. It provides services like music distribution, marketing, audience growth, royalty management and ways for artists to earn money from their music.

The startup focuses on solving common problems faced by independent musicians, such as getting discovered, reaching more listeners, earning a steady income, and building long-term careers in music.

Damroo also offers support like YouTube growth management, artist collaborations, A&R support, royalty collection, and funding help for content creation. It also helps artists register with organizations such as the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) so they can earn long-term publishing royalties and build stable income streams.
