Hesai Technology, a global company known for its lidar solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Grab. Under this deal Grab will become the exclusive distributor of Hesai’s lidar products in Southeast Asia.
As part of the partnership, Grab will handle sales, customer support, and marketing for Hesai’s sensors across the region, helping expand their reach in Southeast Asian markets.
Through this partnership, Hesai will use Grab’s strong network and regional reach to make its high-quality lidar sensors more easily available across Southeast Asia. This will help customers get faster access to lidar technology for many uses, including robotics and autonomous systems.
With Grab acting as Hesai’s exclusive distributor in the region, the partnership also ensures a steady and reliable supply of lidar technology, which is important for Grab’s work in autonomous mobility and mapping.
“By expanding access to world-class lidar technology in Southeast Asia, Grab is doing more than improving our own autonomous mobility and mapping capabilities; we are providing the essential ‘eyes’ that allow robotics to ‘see’ and navigate safely, thus ensuring that 3D intelligence can be made accessible and scaled to every industry across our region,” says Anthony Tan, Group CEO and Co-founder of Grab.
David Li, CEO and Co-founder of Hesai, says, “Lidar is a core technology that enables robots to achieve autonomous perception and safer operations. The Southeast Asian market has shown strong demand across manufacturing, logistics, and service robots. Through our partnership with Grab, we will leverage our mature and reliable lidar technology with the needs of local markets, accelerating the deployment and large-scale lidar adoption for robotics applications.”
Lidar is a technology that uses light to measure distance and create highly accurate maps of the surrounding environment. Hesai is a global leader in this field and holds the top market position in automotive, driver-assistance systems, and autonomous mobility.
Southeast Asia is expected to see strong growth in AI-based automation, especially in manufacturing, transportation, and logistics. Because of this, lidar technology is likely to move from testing stages to wide commercial use across the region.
This partnership helps both companies support the growth of Physical and Embodied AI in Southeast Asia. By making lidar hardware more accessible across industries, Grab and Hesai will help machines operate more intelligently and safely in the region’s complex urban environments.
