Under the guidance of Bank Indonesia and the People’s Bank of China, a new cross-border QR payment system has been launched between Indonesia and China. It connects Indonesia’s QRIS system with China’s major payment networks.
The system is powered by Alipay+, operated by Ant International, and UnionPay International, helping link digital payment platforms in both countries.
This step makes it easier for people in both countries to shop and pay across borders. It connects China’s 1.4 billion people with Indonesia’s 280 million population, allowing smooth and secure QR payments using their own mobile wallets.
At launch, Alipay and UnionPay users can pay at over 40 million QRIS merchants in Indonesia. In return, Indonesian users can also scan and pay at more than 80 million Alipay and UnionPay QR codes in China.
The QR payment system between Indonesia and China makes it easier to use local currencies for cross-border payments. It also helps people see exchange rates more clearly, makes travel more convenient, and supports smoother tourism and trade between the two countries.

As more merchants start accepting it and more digital wallets connect to the system, the use of digital payments is expected to grow.
This will also help more people access financial services and strengthen economic connections between Indonesia, China, and the wider region.
