CleanTech Startup Leanwatts Raises $2 Mn to Expand EV Power Electronics

Clean tech startup Leanwatts has raised around US$2 million (₹18.15 crore) in a seed funding round. The round was led by Trivest Partners.

Leanwatts will also increase local production, expand its manufacturing operations, and grow its range of power electronics products.

Sujith Kumar, co-founder of the firm, said “India’s energy transition is creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build globally competitive technology and manufacturing capabilities... Our ambition is to build an India-rooted, globally relevant company that combines indigenous R&D, engineering and manufacturing under one roof.”

Leanwatts was founded in 2023 by Pradeep Chowdary, Sujith Kumar, and Abhilash Reddy. The startup develops power electronics products for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers.

The company makes portable and onboard chargers from 500W to 6.6kW for electric two-wheelers, L2 and L5 vehicles, and electric tractors. Leanwatts also plans to expand into public charging solutions, rectifiers, power modules, hybrid inverters, and other power conversion products.
