LG Electronics Joins NVIDIA Partner Network to Expand AI Data Center Cooling Business

South Korean electronics company LG Electronics has joined NVIDIA’s Partner Network as a Power and Cooling partner strengthening its position in the growing AI data center cooling market.

The partnership will allow LG Electronics to work more closely with customers developing AI data centers and AI factories using NVIDIA technologies. It could also create new opportunities for LG to supply cooling equipment during the early planning and design stages of data center projects.

LG Electronics’ Cooling Solutions

LG Electronics said its 600-kilowatt and 1-megawatt coolant distribution units (CDUs) have met NVIDIA’s qualification requirements. Its 2.5-megawatt CDU has also qualified under NVIDIA’s AI factory specifications as an NVIDIA DSX Ready CDU.

These qualifications could help LG compete for large-scale AI data center projects and expand its relationships with global customers.

LG Electronics has been involved in the data center cooling business since 2011. Its portfolio includes large air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, as well as newer liquid-cooling systems designed for high-heat AI chips.

Chip-to-Chiller Cooling Portfolio

The company has developed a “chip-to-chiller” cooling portfolio that includes chillers for producing cooling water, CDUs for distributing the coolant, and cold plates that directly remove heat from semiconductor chips.

LG Electronics has also developed redundant power systems and temperature-control technology designed to maintain temperatures within around 0.25 degrees Celsius.

Expansion in North America

LG Electronics plans to expand its data center cooling business with hyperscale data center operators and colocation providers, particularly in North America.

The company said North America accounts for more than 60% of global demand for new data center capacity, making the region an important market for its cooling solutions.
