LG Uplus Partners with OptAI to Optimize AI Tokens and Reduce GPU Costs

LG Uplus, a Korean telecommunications company has partnered with the AI optimization startup OptAI to improve AI processing efficiency cut GPU usage and lower power consumption. This partnership was announced on October 2 2026. The goal is to help AI systems process tokens while using the same computing resources.

What Is the LG Uplus and OptAI Partnership About?

This partnership focuses on optimization technology. Token optimization helps AI models process information and generate responses efficiently. The aim is to increase processing capacity while reducing the computing resources needed for AI services.

Under this collaboration LG Uplus will. Apply token optimization across its AI services. OptAI will develop tools that make AI models smaller, faster and more efficient.

Both LG Uplus and OptAI aim to improve AI response speeds, cut operating costs and support the growing computing needs of AI services.

How Will the Technology Improve AI Efficiency?

LG Uplus and OptAI previously worked together to optimize a language model built on LG AI Researchs EXAONE model family.

By optimizing the model, LG Uplus and OptAI enabled the model to run on smartphone neural processing units (NPUs). NPUs are chips specially designed for AI tasks.

The companies reported that the optimization produced the following results:

  • 78% power consumption
  • 82% smaller model size
  • Performance comparable to traditional CPU-based methods according to the companies

Now the companies are expanding their work to server‑based GPU environments. These environments are commonly used to run large‑scale AI services.

The latest research shows that a single GPU can process up to four times tokens than before according to the reported results.

How Will LG Uplus Use the Technology?

How Will LG Uplus Use the Technology

LG Uplus plans to introduce the technology into its AI services and large‑scale AI infrastructure. LG Uplus will test the technology in real‑world operating environments.

This initiative is meant to help LG Uplus handle AI requests with the same computing resources while keeping electricity use and infrastructure costs under control.

LG Uplus and OptAI also want to make AI response speeds and improve service quality as demand for generative AI continues to grow.
