On Wednesday, Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry (MITI) said it does not officially support a private AI project involving Skyvast Corporation and Huawei Technologies.
MITI said it wants to clarify that the Malaysian government did not create, approve, or organize the AI project. It is also not part of any official agreement between governments or a national technology program.
“While the MADANI government is keen on building up its Al-powered infrastructure to enhance the public sector capacity and services, any such initiative would need to go through the appropriate level of legal, operational, and reputational processes and due diligence that are required for a project of such significance,” the ministry said.
The ministry also said Malaysia is fully committed to following all export control laws and national security rules. This includes new guidelines from global regulators.
Malaysia supports the highest standards of transparency, fairness, and security and follows international rules based on cooperation, with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at the center.
” Malaysia also reaffirms its sovereign right to formulate its policies in line with national interests, while facilitating transformative technologies that continue to support global research and innovation in the development of advanced technologies for the good of humanity,” the ministry said.
