myFirst raises US$8 million Series A round Vertex Ventures

myFirst, a Singapore-based children’s tech company, has raised over US$8 million in its Series A funding round. The round was led by Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India.

The company makes “first devices” specially designed for kids. Many parents feel that giving their children access to technology is unavoidable, but they also want to keep them safe from the open internet.

myFirst focuses on solving a common problem. On one side, kids use their parents’ smartphones. On the other side, if they get their own phone, they may quickly be exposed to adult content and unsafe platforms.

To solve this, myFirst created a controlled and safe ecosystem. It includes the myFirst Fone watchphone and the myFirst Circle family app. The company says more than one million families in 60 countries are already using its products.

“Every child deserves their first digital device to be built just for them, at a price point that makes it accessible. This new funding will help us bring safer, kid-ready tech to even more families worldwide, while giving parents confidence in their child’s first steps into the digital world,” shared G-Jay Yong, co-founder and CEO of myFirst.

“The global kids tech market is still under-penetrated, and with its integrated ecosystem and global reach, myFirst is well positioned to define the category at scale.”

The myFirst Fone watchphone allows children to call, send messages, and share updates about their day. It gives kids some independence without giving them a full smartphone.

The device also includes safety features like GPS tracking, safety zones, and an SOS button. These tools help parents keep track of their children and feel more secure.

The MyFirst Circle app is a private social platform for families. Kids can share photos and messages only with approved family members and friends. The app is fully encrypted, controlled by parents, free from ads, and protects children from strangers and inappropriate content.
