Their mission: to reduce the administrative burden on health care professionals (HCPs) by automating clinical documentation with artificial intelligence, allowing HCPs to focus more on patient care.

The journey began when the co-founders recognized that clinical documentation was a major pain point for healthcare professionals. After presenting an English prototype to R1, Sahl AI pivoted towards the Middle Eastern market to address region-specific challenges. The Sahl AI-R1 partnership is the first of its kind in the healthcare space. This public-private strategic partnership has enabled them to harness the potential of AI-driven solutions within Saudi Arabia’s healthcare landscape.

Through their participation in R1’s incubator program, the team collected over 700 hours of Arabic medical conversation data to train Sahl AI’s models. Their goal was to develop a tool that listens to Arabic conversations between physicians and patients and generates accurate English medical notes. They are now publishing their preliminary results which show that the medical summaries score an impressive 93% using a modified clinically validated tool called the PDQI-9 across 58 scores given by more than 20 independent doctors.

“Our solution empowers healthcare professionals by removing tedious administrative tasks from their day-to-day work, freeing up more time for meaningful patient interactions,” said Ammar. We believe Sahl AI will redefine how healthcare providers approach clinical documentation.”

With early validation from the case study and strong results from pilot programs, Sahl AI is now trialling and deploying its solution in real clinical environments. The startup raised $425,000 in Q4 last year and in the process of an investment round on the back of their success in building the tech to support product development, market expansion, and integration with electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Looking forward, Sahl AI aims to integrate with leading EHR platforms to enhance its reach and impact across the healthcare ecosystem. The company’s ambition extends beyond efficiency—Sahl AI’s mission is to set a new standard for clinical documentation in the Middle East, fostering a healthcare environment that puts physicians and patients first.
