Turkcell CEO Ali Taha Koç Appoints Chair of GSMA Technology Group

Turkcell CEO Dr. Ali Taha Koç has been appointed as the Chair of the GSMA Technology Group, which is part of the GSMA, the global organization representing more than 1,000 mobile operators and technology companies.

Dr. Koç is already a member of the GSMA Board. In his new role, he will lead all GSMA Technology Group meetings, starting with the meeting in New Delhi, India, on October 5, 2026.

The GSMA Technology Group advises the GSMA Board on important topics such as technology strategy, network development, global standards, and industry collaboration. Dr. Koç's appointment strengthens Turkcell's role in the global technology industry and gives Türkiye a stronger voice in discussions on digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and next-generation connectivity.

Commenting on his appointment, Dr. Koç said: "GSMA is one of the most influential organizations in the mobile communications industry. Turkcell has enjoyed a strong and productive partnership with GSMA for more than 25 years. We see this role as an important opportunity and a responsibility to represent the technology vision of Turkcell and Türkiye on the global stage. We will continue to share Turkcell’s 32 years of experience, expertise, and innovation with the international ecosystem."

Dr. Ali Taha Koç said that Türkiye has an important role in the global technology industry. He also reaffirmed Turkcell's commitment to supporting the GSMA's goals and helping drive the country's digital transformation.

As Chair of the GSMA Technology Group, Dr. Koç will lead the meetings in New Delhi, where industry leaders will discuss the future of mobile technology, secure and sustainable digital infrastructure, and ways to strengthen global collaboration.

The GSMA Technology Group helps create industry standards for new technologies such as next-generation mobile networks, network slicing, and cloud-based solutions. It also works on cybersecurity, consent management, emergency services, and global network certification.

The group also supports the development of AI-powered network management, advanced cloud infrastructure, and partnerships with leading technology companies. Its work helps mobile operators expand 5G networks and prepare for the future rollout of 6G technology.
