Upwind Raises $300 Mn at $3.8 Billion Valuation to Expand Cloud and AI Security

Israeli cloud security company Upwind has raised about $300 million in new funding, giving the company a valuation of around $3.8 billion.

Upwind’s existing investors are also taking part. One of them is Penny Jar Capital, an investment firm backed by NBA star Steph Curry.
Upwind was founded in 2022 by Amiram Shachar and his former Spot.io partners, Liran Polak, Lavi Ferdman, and Tal Zuri.

Spot.io was acquired by NetApp for $450 million in 2020. The founders later came together again to start Upwind.
Upwind builds cloud security software that monitors live cloud environments as they operate, instead of mainly depending on static security scans.
Upwind operates in the CNAPP (Cloud-Native Application Protection Platform) market. Its platform combines different security tools, including cloud security monitoring, workload protection, threat detection, response, and identity security.
Upwind has also started focusing more on AI security. The company worked with Nvidia on research into AI system security. According to Upwind, its technology detected harmful prompts targeting large language models with about 95% accuracy while working in real time.
