Vikra Ocean Tech raises $1 million in seed round led by Finvolve and India Accelerator

Deeptech startup Vikra Ocean Tech has raised US$1 million in a seed funding round led by Finvolve and India Accelerator.

The company will use this money to increase production, improve sales to defence and government companies, and build steady long-term revenue.

Founded in 2019 by Rajeuv Govindan and Rajagurunathan Krishnasamy, Vikra Ocean Tech, based in Chennai, is building different types of ocean robots. These include underwater robots, surface boats, crawling robots, and AI tools for imaging and communication. All of these are connected and controlled through one single platform.

These technologies are used for defence work, underwater inspections, sea floor mapping, and helping during disasters.

The company wants to reduce India’s reliance on imported underwater robots by offering cheaper, locally made solutions. Its systems also use Indian-made cameras, lights, communication devices, and AI video tools.

Vikra Ocean Tech has already received early interest from both defence and commercial sectors. It has also received innovation funding through the iDEX programme from the Indian Army and Coast Guard.

The company has developed a deep-sea camera and lighting system that can work up to 2,000 metres underwater. Its surface boats are also being used for offshore exploration.
