Anichess, an online strategy game based on chess and created in collaboration with Magnus Carlsen, the five-time world chess champion, and Chess.com, has successfully received US$1.8 million in investment.
Sfermion and Amber Group led the round, and additional participants included SNZ Capital, Aspen Digital, Fenbushi Capital, and others. The money will go towards team growth, marketing campaigns, and game development for the company.

With its spell-chess gameplay, Anichess is a division of Animoca Brands dedicated to creating and expanding decentralised chess. It is a free-to-play game that mixes the fundamentals of classic chess with new elements like unique spell mechanics and unique challenges to offer another level of strategy.

Anichess debuted its player-versus-environment daily chess puzzles in January 2024. Since then, it has attracted over 1,000,000 registered players and maintained a daily active user base of 150,000 people, who have solved over 50 million chess puzzles between them.
