Hong Kong Polytechnic University Partners with ZEISS Vision Care

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and ZEISS Vision Care, one of the top producers of eyeglass lenses and ophthalmic instruments worldwide, aim to accelerate the market penetration and increase the global impact of PolyU's proprietary myopia control lens technologies.

Additionally, this alliance opens the door for PolyU and ZEISS to work together on long-term research and development projects centred on myopia correction and other ocular technologies. PolyU and ZEISS have a tight relationship that began several years ago when they both looked into working together on research and teaching projects.

The PolyU delegation visited it’s cutting-edge labs and production facilities after the signing ceremony, and they had fruitful conversations with its personnel about future collaborative research and development.

Mr Kelvin Wong expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and said, “This collaboration with a global industry leader like ZEISS Vision Care not only accelerates the market presence of our innovations but also amplifies the impact of our research and endeavours in commercialisation. PolyU innovations in the areas of myopia control and other ophthalmic issues are poised to make unprecedented societal impact.” The partnership between PolyU and ZEISS Vision Care is expected to create further innovative solutions that will enhance vision preservation and improvement for people around the world.

PolyU has led the way in developing a new non-invasive method to manage children’s myopia development. Myopia is an eye condition that affects one-third of the world’s population.

Specifically, the School of Optometry’s researchers have created cutting-edge myopia management technologies that are integrated into specialty contact and spectacle lenses. These ground-breaking devices, which have been available to millions of people globally since their launch in 2018, have improved the lives of children who suffer from myopia and established PolyU as the industry leader in myopia control technology.
