Ajit Mohan to Step Down as Snap’s Chief Business Officer

Ajit Mohan, the former head of Meta India and CEO of Hotstar, is stepping down as Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Snapchat parent Snap after four years with the company.

SUMMARY

  • Ajit Mohan, former Meta India head and Hotstar CEO, is stepping down as Snap’s Chief Business Officer.
  • His departure is expected on December 31, 2026, as he plans to spend more time with his family in Singapore.
  • Mohan joined Snap in 2023 and played a key role in rebuilding its global advertising business.

Mohan’s departure is expected to take effect on December 31, 2026. He said he is leaving for personal reasons and plans to spend more time with his family in Singapore.

Snap said Mohan will be leaving to pursue other opportunities and that his departure is not related to any disagreement over the company’s strategy, management, operations or financial practices.

As part of the leadership change, Snap has appointed EMEA President Ronan Harris as Chief Commercial Officer. Harris will oversee Snap’s global advertising sales and go-to-market operations as the company works to grow its advertising business worldwide, including in India, its largest user market.

“When I joined, we set out to rebuild Snap's advertising business from the ground up. What that meant in practice: rewiring our ads platform for performance, making direct response the engine of the business, and proving to advertisers that a platform reaching nearly a billion users could deliver real, measurable outcomes. The progress that we have made in the last few years is massive,” Mohan wrote.

“I'm leaving with real confidence in Snap. Evan and the leadership team are building toward something that still matters: a company that still puts human connection and authenticity at the centre, with a big bold bet on the future of computing. That mission is worth backing, and I'll be backing it as a fan and a shareholder,” he wrote.

Mohan joined Snap as president of Asia Pacific in January 2023 before taking on the role of chief business officer in February 2025. He led the company’s global advertising business, while also overseeing its revenue products and broader business operations.

Prior to Snap, Mohan was the VP and MD of Meta India from 2019 to 2022. He previously served as the founding CEO of Hotstar and held senior positions at Star India, McKinsey and Arthur D Little.

His departure comes at a time when Snap is looking to turn its growing user base in India into a larger advertising business. The company says it has more than 250 million users in the country, making India one of its biggest markets.
