Arkeus raises $16 million in series A round led by QIC Ventures

Defence tech startup Arkeus has secured A$25 million (US$16 million) in a series A round led by QIC Ventures.

The new funding will help Arkeus expand globally, build advanced manufacturing facilities in Queensland and the United States, and speed up the delivery of its systems to defence partners in allied countries.

Arkeus develops AI-powered sensing technology that helps autonomous systems better see, understand, and react in difficult environments. Its technology is designed to work in real time, even in harsh conditions where traditional sensors may not perform well.

According to Arkeus, tests showed that its sensing systems can detect targets from up to eight times farther away than traditional optical systems in poor visibility conditions.

The company also said its technology has been integrated with drones made by companies such as AeroVironment, Textron, Tekever, and Insitu.

Arkeus said its technology uses advanced hyperspectral optical radar systems that can capture multiple layers of visual information at the same time. This helps AI systems detect, identify, and track objects during both day and night, even in environments where traditional sensors may not work effectively.

The company said its technology is built to process and understand data in real time directly on the device, reducing the need for remote processing or constant communication links. Arkeus also said it is seeing growing interest from defence programmes as global demand for autonomous operations continues to increase.

Founded in 2020 by Simon Olsen and Jonathan Nebauer, Arkeus develops AI-powered sensing systems that act like the eyes and brain of autonomous machines. Its technology helps machines see, understand their surroundings and respond in real time.
