Vietnamese conglomerate Geleximco Group and China’s Chery Group have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to explore opportunities in semiconductors, robotics, green energy, batteries, environmental technology, and shipbuilding.
The agreement was signed on October 20, 2026, and announced by the companies this week. It aims to combine their expertise and resources to support technological development, strengthen manufacturing capabilities, and expand industrial supply chains in Vietnam.
Focus on High-Tech Industries and Green Energy
Under the agreement, Geleximco and Chery plan to study and promote projects across several high-tech sectors. These include semiconductor technology, robotics, clean energy, battery production, environmental solutions, and shipbuilding.
The partnership is expected to help both companies access new technologies and develop advanced manufacturing capabilities. It also supports Vietnam’s broader efforts to strengthen its industrial sector and promote sustainable economic growth.
Existing Automotive Partnership
The agreement builds on the companies’ existing automotive joint venture, which focuses on manufacturing and assembling vehicles under Chery’s Omoda and Jaecoo brands in Vietnam.
The joint venture is developing an automotive factory in Hung Yen province with a planned investment of approximately $800 million across three phases. The project has a designed annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles when fully developed.
Geleximco Plans Semiconductor Investment
Geleximco is expanding its presence in the semiconductor sector as part of its broader industrial development strategy. The company plans to begin construction of a chip plant in Hung Yen in November 2026, with commercial operations targeted for early 2028.
The facility is expected to test and integrate Vietnamese-designed control integrated circuits (ICs), sensors, and power chips into electric vehicles and other industrial applications.
