Japanese fusion energy startup Helical Fusion has raised JPY 3.23 billion ( $20.6 million) in the second close of its Series B funding round.
The company is developing a Helical Stellarator, a type of fusion reactor designed to support continuous power generation. The new funding will help Helical Fusion accelerate the development of its Helix Program, including its demonstration reactor Helix HARUKA and the planned power-generation system Helix KANATA.
Fuji Electric Joins as Investor and Official Partner
Fuji Electric has joined the round as an investor and will also become an Official Partner of Helical Fusion’s Helix Program.
The two companies began working in 2025, when Fuji Electric agreed to provide power supply equipment for Helical Fusion’s high-temperature superconducting magnet development.
Fuji Electric brings experience in power electronics, power generation, energy infrastructure and related industrial technologies. This expertise could support Helical Fusion as it moves from fusion research toward developing a power-generation system.
How Will Helical Fusion Use the Funding?
The fresh capital will support Helical Fusions Helix Program, which is focused on moving its fusion technology toward electricity generation.
The company is developing Helix HARUKA as a demonstration device. It plans to follow this with Helix KANATA, which is intended to become its fusion power plant.
Helical Fusion is targeting viable fusion power in the 2030s although the company acknowledges that technical, cost, safety and construction challenges still need to be addressed before commercial operations can begin.
Helical Fusions Fusion Energy Technology
Helical Fusion was founded in 2021. Is based in Tokyo, Japan. The company was established as a spin-out using research originating from Japans National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS).
Its technology uses the Helical Stellarator approach, in which powerful magnetic fields are used to confine hot plasma. The company is developing temperature superconducting magnet technology as part of its reactor design.
The company is led by Takaya Taguchi, Co-founder and CEO. Helical Fusion is building on decades of research, into helical fusion technology and aims to develop a commercially viable fusion power plant.
