Singapore’s National University Health System (NUHS), Singtel and Ericsson have expanded their partnership to develop next-generation connected healthcare solutions using 5G-Advanced, 6G and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
The three organisations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on November 3, 2026, to advance healthcare research and develop practical applications using advanced telecommunications technologies.
New AI Centre to Drive Healthcare Innovation
Under the partnership, Singtel and Ericsson will become founding partners of NUHS' newly established National University XG AI Centre (NXAC). The centre will focus on developing and testing healthcare applications powered by AI, advanced networks and robotics.
According to the organisations, NXAC will be the world's first 6G AI centre dedicated to healthcare.
Focus on Robotics and Remote Patient Monitoring
The centre will explore autonomous robots for hospital logistics, medication delivery and patient support. Other areas include connected medical devices, wearable technology, remote patient monitoring and AI-powered clinical systems.
The partners will also explore extended reality technologies for surgical assistance, medical training and remote specialist collaboration.
Partners Share Their Vision for Connected Healthcare
NUHS Chief Executive Professor Yeoh Khay Guan said the collaboration aims to turn advanced telecommunications and AI technologies into practical healthcare applications.
Singtel Singapore CEO Ng Tian Chong said the partnership will help Singapore address the challenges of an ageing population and increasingly complex healthcare needs.
Daniel Ode, Head of Ericsson Singapore, Brunei and Philippines and Global Customer Unit Singtel, highlighted the importance of reliable networks for applications such as robotic surgery, holomedicine and remote monitoring.
Collaboration to Advance 5G-Advanced and 6G Research
The partnership will initially focus on 5G and 5G-Advanced applications, with plans to develop solutions for early 6G capabilities.
The organisations will also support joint training programmes, internships, fellowships and research initiatives to strengthen collaboration between healthcare and technology professionals.
