Plantopia Bags US$9 Million

Israeli food-tech startup Plantopia has raised US$9 million in a new funding round. The investment was led by Schreiber Foods a global dairy company, and Siddhi Capital, a food-focused investment firm.

SUMMARY

  • Plantopia raised US$9 million in a new funding round.
  • The round was led by Schreiber Foods and Siddhi Capital.
  • The company aims to make sustainable dairy alternatives that closely match traditional dairy.

The company will use the funding to move from the research and development stage into commercial production. Plantopia is developing plant-based dairy proteins to provide sustainable alternatives to traditional dairy products.

Plantopia produces dairy proteins using molecular farming a technology that uses plants instead of animals to make complex dairy proteins. This approach offers a more sustainable way to produce dairy ingredients.

The company's first product is casein, the main protein found in milk that gives cheese its texture, structure, and melting properties. This protein helps create plant-based cheese that performs more like traditional cheese.

"Having completed the development stages that have been our focus in recent years, we are now moving into commercial production," said CEO and co-founder Tal Lutzky.

“The facility currently under construction in Kibbutz Sdot Yam will mark an important step toward establishing an innovative, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable platform for producing plant-based dairy proteins,” said AP Partners’s founding partner, Hagai Stadler.
