Oct 14, 2026 | By Nguyen Minh

Tencent Holdings, the Chinese technology and internet company, Closes approximately $5.7 billion through a dual-currency bond offering on October 13, 2026. The issuance attracted more than $23 billion in combined investor orders, reflecting strong demand for the company's debt despite concerns about rising AI investment costs.
According to Reuters, the offering included $1.8 billion in US dollar-denominated bonds and 26 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately $3.89 billion, in offshore yuan bonds.
How Tencent Plans to Use the Funds
Tencent plans to use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, according to the offering documents. The fundraising comes as the company increases investment in AI infrastructure, computing equipment, software and data centres.
The bond issuance provides Tencent with additional capital as it develops AI-related products and expands the infrastructure required to support its technology operations.
Tencent's AI Spending More Than Doubles
Tencent's capital expenditure reached 96.3 billion yuan, approximately $14.4 billion, in the first half of 2026, compared with 45.9 billion yuan, or around $6.86 billion, during the same period in 2025.
The increase reflects the resources technology companies are committing to support AI development and deployment. As AI models and applications require greater computing capacity, companies are investing in the infrastructure needed to develop products and serve customers.
Strong Investor Demand Despite AI Spending Concerns
Tencent's latest bond sale attracted significant investor interest despite wider market concerns about the cost and sustainability of AI investments.
The strong demand allowed the company to price its bonds at yields below their initial guidance. According to Reuters, the 10-year US dollar notes were priced at a spread of 90 basis points over comparable US Treasury securities, while the 20-year notes were priced at a spread of 115 basis points.
Tencent's Credit Ratings and Bond Offering
Tencent's bond offering documents listed credit ratings of A1 from Moody's, A+ from S&P Global Ratings and A from Fitch Ratings. The newly issued bonds were expected to receive ratings of A1 from Moody's and A+ from S&P, according to the offering documents.
JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, HSBC and Morgan Stanley acted as joint global coordinators for the US dollar bond offering. Several financial institutions, including ICBC (Asia), Bank of China, China Construction Bank, HSBC and JPMorgan, were involved in coordinating the offshore yuan issuance.
